Sri Lankan player Dhanushka Gunathilaka was arrested by Australian police from a hotel.
According to the French news agency, Dhanushka Gunathilaka was arrested from a hotel on Sunday morning for raping an Australian woman, which has been confirmed by the Sri Lankan board. Dhanushka will appear in court on Monday, November 7.
The Sri Lankan board says that they will immediately investigate the matter in consultation with the ICC and strict action will be taken against the player if found guilty.
The Sri Lankan board says it has been told by the ICC that Dhanushka Gunathilaka has been arrested in Sydney for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman.
Gunathila was out of the World Cup due to injury. Gunathila has been suspended for the statement of a foreign woman before.
A Sri Lankan national has been charged following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 29-year-old woman in Sydney last week, New South Wales police said in a statement on Sunday.
Detective Superintendent Jane Doherty, commander of the New South Wales State Sex Crimes Squad, told reporters the pair met at a pre-arranged meeting in Sydney where they drank alcohol and returned to the woman’s home where the man sexually assaulted her.
Gunathilaka made his international debut in 2015 and has played eight Tests, 47 ODIs and 46 T20Is.
