Nawaz is hoping to prevail in the voters’ court on February 8th, following his legal triumphs.

The leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, has expressed hope that the public will support his party and help him win the general elections that are scheduled for next year, following significant court victories.

According to the party, he is a contender for a fourth term as prime minister in the general elections that are scheduled for February 8, 2024.

Nawaz addressed the country in a taped speech that was broadcast live on television stations. “I am hopeful that you [the people] will announce your judgments on February 8, [2024] and end the punishments meted out to you,” Nawaz stated.

Since returning to Pakistan in October following a four-year self-exile in London, Nawaz has repeatedly emphasized the need to bring those responsible for the overthrow of his government in 2017 accountable, arguing that they not only punished him and his family but also Pakistan.

The former premier spoke to his followers for the first time since he was cleared of all charges of significant corruption. “My people, you don’t need to reach out to any court as you yourself are the judge,” he declared.

In separate verdicts earlier this week and last month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) reversed Nawaz’s convictions in the Al Azizia Steel Mills corruption case and the Avenfield case, respectively.

One of the final significant obstacles to Nawaz’s eligibility to run in the national elections was eliminated by the high court’s most recent relief on Tuesday.

To be eligible to stand in the polls, he simply needs the lifetime prohibition from holding any public office to be lifted.

Nawaz bemoaned the fact that, after his governments ended, he was often brought before the courts and that he had “never” inherited “good conditions” from his forebears.

However, he was grateful because this time around the courts cleaned his record. This is a triumph for all of us, not just for me. During these difficult times, you continued to support me and my party,” Nawaz said to his followers.

The three-time prime minister informed his staff that, at the behest of a retired Supreme Court judge, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had launched a witch hunt against him.

“Those who participated in these despicable schemes to topple PML-N regimes have now come to light. We are seeing testimonials emerge from places we never would have imagined,” he remarked.

Judges referred to me as the Godfather, the Sicilian Mafia, and many other disparaging terms. But I trusted Allah to handle all of my problems,” he grinned.

The senior PML-N member bemoaned having to spend a “long time” behind bars, put up with “abuse,” and deal with “character assassination.”

“I was unable to lift my father’s casket. I could lay my mom to rest. Nawaz bemoaned that he was unable to spend his wife’s final moments with her, but he swore to face the difficult circumstances that lay ahead.
