Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla claims there is “no link between Parliament security breach & MPs’ suspension.”

According to Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, there is “no association” between the latest security breach at the Parliament and the suspension of Members of Parliament.

Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla addressed a letter to every member of Parliament three days after the significant security breach in the Parliament, stating that there was no connection between the security incident and the recent suspension of thirteen MPs from the Lower House.

On December 13, the day India observed the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament assaults, two individuals sprang inside the Lok Sabha from the visitors’ gallery above the chamber and launched smoke canisters inside the Parliament, causing panic.

Birla underlined that there is “no association” between the MPs’ suspension from the Lok Sabha and the security breach in Parliament.

The Speaker made the following statement: “It is regrettable that certain Members and political parties are associating the House’s decision to suspend certain members from its service with the incident that took place on December 13, 2023.”

Birla went on, “This is unnecessary. There is no connection between the events of December 13 and the Members’ suspension. The sole purpose of the suspension is to protect the house’s sanctity.

Om Birla wrote, “A high-level Inquiry Committee has been constituted for an in-depth investigation of the incident that took place inside the House,” in a letter to each and every MP. The Committee has commenced its operations. The House will shortly receive a copy of this committee’s report.”

“To guarantee that similar incidents don’t happen again, I have also established a High Powered Committee that will examine different facets of security in the Parliament Complex and create a detailed action plan,” he continued in his statement.

Six suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the Parliament security breach case. According to the Delhi Police, the attack’s leader, Lalit Jha, intended to incite chaos throughout the nation and use his group’s actions to pressure the government into complying with their demands.
