Is there any consideration to postpone the salaries of government employees?
The Finance Ministry has categorically rejected what it deems as unfounded reports broadcasted by a private news channel, which hinted at a potential delay in disbursing funds for development projects and the salaries of federal government employees. The ministry’s spokesperson denounced the reporting, labeling it as entirely baseless and false. Expressing disappointment that the news channel failed to reach out to the Finance Division’s spokesperson for clarification, the ministry emphasized the need for responsible and accurate journalism.
The Finance Ministry has affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fulfilling all obligations under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program. The completion of the Staff Level Agreement (SLA) for the first review serves as evidence of the country’s adherence to the program. The ministry clarified that funds for the second fiscal quarter, covering current and development expenditures, have already been released. Contrary to the report from the specific news channel, there has been no alteration in the release strategy by the Finance Division or Planning Division. The statement emphasized the accuracy of these details, countering any misinformation.
The Finance Division has not only released all Q2 funds for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), with beneficiary transfers already underway, but it has also provided the allocated funds for subsidizing the power sector as per the Circular Debt Management Plan (CDMP) requirements. Additionally, in adherence to tradition, salary disbursement to the Christian community before Christmas has been ensured. The statement emphasized that revenue collection by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and NTR collection by other ministries is progressing smoothly, debunking the news item as baseless and lacking evidence.
