A government study indicates that the unemployment rate for graduates in the 15+ age group fell to 13.4% in 2022–2023 from 14.9% a year earlier.
According to the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation’s most recent Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), Chandigarh had the lowest unemployment rate among graduates aged 15 and over, at 5.6%. Delhi came in second with 5.7% for 2022–2023.
According to the report, Andaman & Nicobar Island has the highest unemployment rate (33%), followed by Ladakh (26.5%) and Andhra Pradesh (24%).
Of the bigger states, Odisha had a high unemployment rate of 21.9% and Rajasthan had a high rate of 23.1%.
The percentage of unemployed people in the labor force is known as the unemployment rate or joblessness rate.
In April 2017, the NSSO introduced the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) in recognition of the need for labor force statistics to be available at increasingly frequent intervals.
Here, the reference period is July 2022–June 2023.
On the basis of the information gathered in PLFS between July 2017–June 2018, July 2018–June 2019, July 2019–June 2020, July 2020–June 2021, and July 2021–June 2022, five yearly reports have previously been released.
The sixth annual report of the NSSO, which was based on the Periodic Labour Force Survey carried out between July 2022 and June 2023, has now been released.
“With the exception of 51 first visit and 68 revisit FSUs for the state of Manipur, allotted in the last quarter, April-June 2023, which were treated as casualties, due to disturbed field situation and unavailability of internet services,” the report stated that the field work for the collection of information regarding the samples, allotted for the period of July 2022-June 2023, was completed timely for both the first visit and revisit samples.
