A Tesla engineer succumbs to a fatal attack in a ‘violent’ malfunction by a rogue robot

In a harrowing incident at Tesla’s Giga Texas factory near Austin, a Tesla engineer met a tragic end when a malfunction turned a robot into a violent assailant.

As reported by Daily Mail, the engineer was securing two disabled Tesla robots when one, designed for gripping and moving aluminum vehicle parts, unexpectedly turned hostile. It plunged its metal claws into the worker’s back and arm, leaving a distressing “trail of blood” across the factory floor.

The 2021 injury report documented this alarming event, noting an “open wound” on the victim’s left hand. Despite the severity, the report claimed the engineer did not require time off work for recovery.

However, skepticism arises, as an attorney representing Tesla’s Giga Texas contract workers believes there is underreporting of injuries at the factory. This concern is heightened by citing the unreported death of a construction worker in September 2021.

The concerns reach beyond the confines of the factory walls, mirroring broader anxieties surrounding the escalating adoption of automated robots in workplaces.

Instances at Amazon shipment centers, reports of robotic aggression, and, tragically, fatalities have ignited inquiries into the rapid integration of technology and its repercussions on workplace safety.

Tesla’s history of injury reporting has come under scrutiny, with allegations of misclassifying accidents to evade regulatory scrutiny.

Complaints filed with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) by the Workers Defense Project allege false safety certificates provided to workers by Tesla’s contractors.

As the lamentable incident at Giga Texas contributes to the growing narrative of worries regarding robotic automation, there is an increasing demand for a thorough reassessment of safety measures and reporting practices in workplaces embracing advanced technologies.
