Google is making “unilateral deals” with smartphone companies, Indian regulator says
Google has been fined $161 million (INR 13 billion) for using illegal tactics to dominate the market in India.
The Competition Commission of India alleged in a statement on Thursday that Google is misusing the license of its Android operating system for several smartphones, web searches, browsing and video hosting services.
According to Indian officials, Google has tried to dominate the market through its Android platform, with Google making “one-sided deals” with smartphone makers to ensure the dominance of its apps.
It has ordered Google to cease and desist from such tactics.
Google has not yet responded to the fines or allegations made in India.
